This was an extraordinary year for the Florida High School Appellate Moot Court Competition. Annually teams of two high school students write briefs based on a case packet provided by FLREA and The Florida Bar LRE Committee. The top briefwriters are invited to participate in oral arguments at each of the five District Courts of Appeal. This year outstanding teams competed for the opportunity to travel to Tallahassee and present at the First District Court of Appeal. The top two teams faced off at the Florida Supreme Court with all seven Justices presiding. This was a particularly unique year because the top two teams were so extraordinary that the Justices were deadlocked and determined both teams in the final round should be designated state champions. The top two teams were from American Heritage Boca Delray and American Heritage Plantation.
Additional schools in the preliminary rounds at the First DCA included teams from Boone High School Orlando, Fort Lauderdale HS, Lincoln HS Tallahassee, and Pinellas Park HS Criminal Justice Academy.
Congratulations to all outstanding students for an incredible year!!
